Benefits of Good Credit
Does Fingerhut have any special offers for customers with good credit?
Yes, by keeping your balance low and making on-time monthly payments, you can qualify for
special deffered billing and price offers on our larger ticket items.
How can I be assured of receiving all of Fingerhut’s seasonal catalogs?
By managing your account responsibly, and making all of your payments on time, you’ll be
eligible to receive these special catalog mailings.
Can I use my MetaBank/Fingerhut Credit Account to purchase other items?
Yes, you can use your MetaBank/Fingerhut Credit Account to purchase other items, but only through Fingerhut partners.
Click here to purchase items such as flowers, magazine subscriptions and even insurance from our partners.
Although your MetaBank/Fingerhut Credit Account has terms like those of a regular credit card, you cannot use it
anywhere that Visa or MasterCard are normally accepted. Make sure to stay current with your payments in
order to take advantage of these services. Also, by making timely payments on your Fingerhut Credit Account,
you may be approved and receive better rates for major credit cards or loans.
Consequences of Bad Credit
What is the impact of paying late?
Most issuers calculate interest daily, so the longer you delay payment the more you pay.
Moreover, failure to make payments on time can lead to late fees, higher interest, as well
as negative reporting on your credit history. For these reasons, do not underestimate the
negative impact of late payments.
Will poor payment performance really impact me in the future?
Yes, it will dramatically impact you in negative ways. By not managing your credit wisely
you’ll most likely get less desirable terms (higher minimum monthly payments, credit line
decreases, etc.) and you’ll end up paying more than the typical customer. This is because
the lender is taking a greater risk due to your poor financial performance.
Understanding Payments
When is my payment due?
Your payment is due no later than the payment due date listed on your billing statement.
This is also where you’ll find your minimum payment amount. This information and the ability
to make payments online are available at fingerhut.com under My Account and by phone at
1-800-208-2500 using our automated voice system.
How can I make a payment?

- To be considered for future credit line increases
- To build credit history with Fingerhut, and other lenders or credit bureaus
If I pay more than the minimum payment each month can I skip the next month’s payment and will I not get charged finance changes?
No, you cannot skip next month’s payment if you make more than the minimum monthly payment the
month before. You will also still be charged finance charges as long as you have a balance.
While you still have to make a payment every month, it is beneficial to pay more than the minimum
amount to be able to pay off your balance sooner and have lower finance changes overall.
Since I always forget to mail my payment on time, is there a way I can set up automated payments?
Yes, you are able to set up automated monthly payments from your bank credit or debit card or automatic
withdrawals from your checking or savings account. You can schedule the date and the amount
(minimum payment, fixed amount or the entire balance). Call 1-800-208-2500 to set up automatic payments.
My payment is due before I am paid each month. Can I change my monthly due date?
Fingerhut recognizes customers may have unique circumstances that make timely payments more difficult
at certain times during the month. Call Fingerhut at 1-800-208-2500 to discuss changing your monthly
billing date.
How can I get my credit line with Fingerhut increased?
Your account is reviewed regularly for items such as your credit score, external credit profile and timely
payment history, which can help result in a possible credit line increase.
What are deferred payments?
If you qualify for deferred payments, it means:
- The purchase will be billed to your MetaBank/Fingerhut Credit Account
- You don’t need to make a payment for that purchase until after the deferral period
- Even though no payment is yet due, finance changes will immediately accrue
- Only that purchase is eligible for deferred payments; monthly payment still need to be made on previous purchases
- If you pay your entire balance in full prior to the end of the deferral period, you will not incur any finance changes!
How to Manage Credit
How can I minimize the finance changes I pay?
By paying your balance on time and in full each month, you will help keep your finance charges to a minimum.
If you can’t pay your entire balance, paying more than your minimum due will still reduce the amount you pay in interest.
How can I make a payment quickly when my due date is coming up and I don’t want to pay a late fee?
You can make payments at finghut.com or call 1-800-208-2500. If you think a mailed payment will
arrive after your due date, you can pay a transaction fee to make a timely payment.
This option is less costly in terms of the actual amount and the impact to your credit history.
Should I be concerned about accumulating more credit card debt during times of economic uncertainty?
Most people make purchases on credit in good faith and expect they can make their payments. Don’t
think of your credit line as “extra income”; it’s just another way to use the income you already have.
It’s always a good idea to keep your balances to a minimum and not “max out” your credit line.
Is there any way to protect myself if I unexpectedly lose my job or become disabled?
Yes, if a life-changed event would make it difficult for you to continue making payments, you should sign up
for our SafeLine Account Protection. With SafeLine, if you involuntarily lose your job, or become disabled,
